What can you say about Sydney - a lot! It's big full of treasures and on the water. All great attributes .
Our first day was a panoramic bus tour of 3 hours that gave us a good overview of the city. Our guide was a local and obviously loved his city. We got history, anecdotes, views of the stunning beaches, the opera House of course, some gorgeous parks with the most beautiful old trees. A local family, who did very well for themselves by the name of Packer, did very well for themselves in real estate. A grandson built a beautiful glass spiral looking building that had apartments and casinos. The Aussies like to put people down and call the building Packer's Pecker!
The opera on our first night was the highlight. The Magic Flute, which Dalna had sung in several times, was so cleverly staged and the voices were spectacular. Such a special evening.
The next day dawned rainy, hot and humid, not my favorite weather to begin with, so I stayed pretty close to home with my cough still rampaging. Dalna ventured out to the Art Museum which she says was magnificent. We were not docked in the city but had to take a shuttle bus in then find your way around. I did go out for a short foray but we mainly saved our energy for the infamous Sydney Mardi Grad parade on our last night. A bus took us downtown and we patiently perched on our stools for almost 3 hours until the parade started-only an hour late! Worth every minute!
The captain delayed our departure until every one was on the ship and we sailed off into the night.
I regret not seeing a couple of other things but our tour got cancelled. Not sure what happened but......really wanted to see Bondi Beach and Manly Beach closer up. Our guide has surfed Manly Beach that morning before coming into work.
I was so impressed with the water taxis, ferries and just all around city surrounded by water.
Oh - and - I got to see the ship refueled by a huge tanker!
I hope you could see my FB photos. This blog site is quite fickle sometimes when I try to upload the pics.
All in all very satisfying visit mate.
Stay tuned.
