PITCAIRN!!!

What an experience!! Pitcairn Island is so remote that cruise ships seldom attempt to go there. Plus, you may only make it onto the island one out of every 4 attempts (similar to Easter Island)

Captain Carl got us onto Easter Island and was determined to be successful with Pitcairn. He was very honest in his assessment of the swells and pitfalls of getting on and off the tender and of the heat with no shade, the half mile walk up a ateep hill to reach the town, another quarter mile into the town plaza , repeating the process to come back. We had to go get stickers for the tenders bc they were only going to take a few at a time. He went over first on a tender to talk with the mayor and assess the situation. Only zodiacs had landed at their port before now.

Upshot: more people landed safely on the Island than the 33 inhabitants had ever seen and our tenders are the biggest boats to ever navigate their port/lagoon. Islanders came over with handcrafts they make themselves out and set up on the pool deck. Awesome!!!

There are many versions of how Pitcair got inhabited and I'm going to do some research on the exact chronological events that but, I did meet 3 seventh generation descendants of Fletcher Christian and one of Young one of the mutineers . It's a hard life, everyone works to maintain the existence and they're are only 37-42 inhabitants left. Pitcairn is subsidized by the UK and , consequently have a post office, store, medical clinic , not in use at this time, and school, which is closed. The last 3 children are in Boarding School in New Zealand at the present time. Hopes are slim to none that they will return to the island to live. It's a fascinating story and I am thrilled to have been able to even get close to it.

(Well, I have no idea why the indentation and have spent too long trying to fix it so will send as is.). Still having problems uploading the photos also. The whole Pitcairn experience is one I'll remember forever.
