Bay of Islands, New Zealand

Writer: ColindaColinda

For me to get up at 6:30 you know it must be for something extraordinary and this qualifies. Entering into the Bay of Islands.NZ is just that. There are, give or take, 144 islands in this Northland Region of NZ. It's known for stunning landscapes, a rich history and the Waitangi Cultural Center- a place to see for the Maiori history and cultural influences.

We took the tender in and got a shuttle bus to the center. It's several acres of beautifully landscaped grounds with a museum, the actual treaty house and an impressive carved meeting house where we saw an excellent performance of Maori men and women in traditional costumes, music and ceremonial performances.

Taking the shuttle bus back to town, we did some shopping, eating and just enjoying the ambiance and the perfect day.

Had a little mishap getting off the tender so my big toe is wrapped up like a mummy but nothing broken, thank goodness. Came back to a special Valentine dinner with lovely desserts and a show full of love songs. All in all a fun Valentines Day. Although I miss all my sweeties at home on this special day.

Tomorrow is bittersweet. We have several good friends who are disembarking tomorrow in Auckland. Perhaps we'll have new ones getting on.

Stay tuned.
